About Us

We are Rachel and Micah:

Rachel and Micah

About us:
We are two love, peace, equality, beer, and democracy lovin’ yuppies who live in Eugene, Oregon. We bought our first home together in 2006 and we have been fixing it up, with the help of our adorable brother-like kitties, Simba and Jeeves. We occupy our daytime hours as an English Instructor and a Systems Administrator at the University of Oregon, respectively. Although we immensely enjoy what we do during the day, we make a point of not writing about work in this blog for professional reasons, mostly to not show up in a Google search and thus to avoid ‘dooceing‘ ourselves. For this reason, if you know us in real life, kindly don’t use our last names if and when you comment; we will just have to remove them.

Why we started this blog:

We started this blog in September 2004 after we became engaged to be married. We wanted a way for people who didn’t know the two of us to read about our daily musings and to keep our family and friends entertained with the trials, tribulations, and joys of wedding planning. This blog has proven to be a good way to keep in touch with family and friends, near and far, to share our thoughts and photos.

Why ‘RacheMicah’:
Let it be known that we were first name combining long before Brangelina. The nickname RacheMicah was born during our freshman year of college. We both lived in the same dorm, along with my friend Emily or ‘M’. When the three of us would hang out or when Emily wanted to group the two of us together, she would simply address us as: ‘RacheMicah’. The ‘L’ was dropped from my name because it makes the combination of names easier to say. The nickname stuck and it seemed a fitting domain name to buy for our first website together. We may decide on a new domain name in the future, but for now it works.

Five things you should know about us:

1. We’re active people. Micah plays soccer, Rachel runs marathons. Both of us use our bicycles as our daily commuters. We do this to keep fit, practice dodging cars, and because there is no cost or time efficient method of parking at the UO. We also ski at the same level of ability as the other and we like to retreat to the mountains to play in the snow during the winter. Backcountry camping, hiking, mountain climbing, and playing video games (button mashing *is* active) are also activities that we enjoy doing together and with friends.

2. We have a difficult time sitting still. One or both of us is usually motoring around, busy with some sort of project with the house or otherwise. We recognize that it is important to rest and be calm in order to be balanced people and sometimes we are really good about just sitting down and doing nothing for awhile. However, sitting around doing nothing is not something that comes easily to us. We are busy bees and we like to do be productive, creatively and functionally.

3. We have a large friend group, known as the Llamas. The history of how our group formulated, stayed together, and earned its self-appointed name has not been documented on this blog yet and when it is, one of us will be sure to link it here. Llamas are awesome, supportive, and hilarious and we never predicted that we would make and keep such an great group of friends. We have great family and friend group and we are fortunate for both of these things.

4. We like to cook and eat. This was of course borne out of necessity and survival to eat and not go broke whilst in college, but we really do love to cook, and eat, together. We love to get creative with what we make and come up with new and exciting concoctions or stick to our usual, yummy repertoire. Mmmm, food.

5. We have a photo gallery. About half of our photos taken of us during our time together as a unit are in our RacheMicah Photo Gallery. Rachel takes the majority of the photos and Micah also takes great shots when a camera finds its way into his hands.

Later I will link to some meaningful posts about us. In the mean time, welcome and enjoy our blog.
